It is often shrubby, sending up severaltrunks from a common base. It is confinedto the immediate vicinity of the coast, seemingto rccjuire the intluence of the sea breezes inorder to maintain its existence, excepting inthe lower Mississippi valley where it venturesfarther inland. It is a tree of rare beauty inautumn and winter, when its brilliant redberries and handsome dark shining green leaveson livid branchlets are sought for Christmasdecorations.
