Pachygrapsus crassipes MB CA

Image of Pachygrapsus Randall 1840

Description:

Description: Notice the lines on the back of this crab which identifies it as being a characteristic crab in Zone 2. Zone 3 would have a similar crab called Hemigrapsus which would have purple spots on its claws and no lines on its back. Another field characteristic that helps ID this crab is that if you count the spines just behind the eye (the right one is easier to count), you count only two spines, which is a good way to separate this crab from the Mud Flat Crab. Lastly, this crab is diurnal. Date: 21 February 2007, 10:13. Source: Pachygrapsus crassipes. Author: Jerry Kirkhart from Los Osos, Calif.
