Summary[edit] Description: Common name: Mexican oleander, Yellow Oleander, Peeli kaner पीली कनेर (Hindi), Utonglei (Manipuri) Botanical name: Thevetia peruviana (syn. Thevetia nerifolia, syn. Cascabela thevetia, syn. Cascabela nerifolia, syn. Cerbera peruviana) - [ (thev-VET-ee-uh) named for Andre Thevet, 16th century French monk and plant collector; (per-u-vee-AN-uh) of or from Peru ] Family: Apocynaceae (dogbane, or oleander family) - [ (a-pos-ih-NAY-see-ay) from the Greek apo (away from or away with) and kuon (dog) ] Origin: Central America Shrub up to 10 to 20 feet tall with leaves group mostly in whorls of three, long and narrow up to 10 inches long. Tip of leafs are pointed with a dark green color. Flowers are yellow and small fruit containing two to four flat seeds. If ingested may experience pain in the mouth and lips, may also develop vomiting, cramping, abdominal pain, nausea and bradycardia shortly after ingestion.
