Summary[edit] Description: English: A Bactrian species of double humped Camel (Camelus bactrianus) in the deserts of Nubra Valley, near Hunger village, Ladakh. The Bactrian camel is a large, even-toed species of camel native to the steppes of Central Asia. The Bactrian camel has two humps on its back in contrast to the single-humped camels in the Thar desert and other deserts of Middle-East.Their species name is derived from the ancient historical region of Bactria. They are quite resilient to cold, drought, and high altitudes. A small number of feral Bactrian camels still roam the Mangystau Province of southwest Kazakhstan and the Nubra Valley in India.
