Description: Introduced, cool-season, annual herb 3–50 cm tall. Stems are sparsely hairy to stiifly hairy. Basal leaves form a rosette and are oblanceolate to oblong and to 20 cm long; margins are toothed or entire. Cauline leaves are elliptic to lanceolate, smaller, more or less stem stem-clasping and rough-to-touch. Peduncles are hollow, 2–8 cm long and swollen below head. Heads are solitary and about 1 cm wide, with ligulate, yellow flowers. Flowering is in spring. A native of the Mediterranean region, it is a weed of disturbed areas. Date: 17 October 2011, 12:52.
