Summary[edit] Description: Torreya californica—California nutmeg. A century ago when people still darned socks it would not have been necessary to explain that darning eggs were also known as "nutmegs", a legacy of a long line of Yankee pedlars who traveled throughout the United States during the 18th and 19th centuries.
