Description: Front painted blue, brown and various colours depicting geometric designs, human figures and animals. Gilded. Remains of plant material were found around the head area and analysis indicated that the matter likely came from the medium sized evergreen tree Mimusops laurifolia which has leathery leaves much like a laurel tree.The ancient Egyptians,according to Greek classical writer Theophrastus Persea (Mimusops laurifolia) grew abundantly in the Theban region of ancient EgyptAncient Egyptian Materials and Technology-Persea. Trees of the Mimusops genus are still found in Ethiopia,Yemen and Arabia today.Bandages can still be seen in the chest area of the mask.It was found with only one eye and its eyebrows are made of blue glass. Underwent conservation in 2002. Mask thought to have been found somewhere within the large burial grounds of Thebes or Akhim, both used extensively in this period. Date: 100 BC - 50 AD.
