Description: Native, yearlong-green, perennial, erect, rather slender, tufted grass to 60 cm tall. Flowerheads are raceme-like, contracted panicles 5-15 cm long. Widespread and common in grasslands, woodlands and forests, often in disturbed areas. Very common in old introduced pastures with a fertiliser history. Native biodiversity. A valuable grazing species due to its abundance, it generally has moderate quality and production, and responds strongly to increased nitrogen and phosphorus; however, some plants/types are low yielding and don’t respond strongly to increasing fertility.
