Description:

Summary[edit] Description: King's serpentweed (Herrickia kingii syn. Machaeranthera kingii syn. Tonestus kingii var. kingii), Aster family (Asteraceae). Ridge between Sunset Peak and Pioneer Peak, Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah. This monocephalous aster, with mostly basal leaves and short, just about 5 cm stem, was embedded into the Machaeranthera key in the Intermountain Flora. Took me a while to figure out its true name, after many hours spent in the University of Utah Herbarium. The phyllaries and the stem under the head are pubescent with short glandular hairs with sand particles glued to it. Date: 7 August 2015, 23:49. Source: 2015.08.07_11.49.06_IMG_0124.
