Description:
Stag-headed oak by New Year's moon This oak tree had a big chunk of its bark eaten by a pesky pony, maybe twenty years ago, and it has been in slow decline ever since as the north side of the trunk starts to decay. It is now quite stag headed, and with a small rowan tree growing in a cleft in the main trunk. It forms part of a hedgerow along with Ash, Bird Cherry, Larch and Blackthorn. This view from the field to the south looks back to the sodium glow from Barnard Castle as the New Year breaks (well, it broke a while ago, this was 01:15) over yet more fresh snow, by the light of the remains of yesterday's blue moon.
