Description:
Summary[edit] Description: English: Gatekeeper (Pyronia tithonus) This small butterfly, formerly known as the Hedge Brown, Hedge Eye and Small Meadow Brown, seems to have got its name from its habit of patrolling the boundaries of different kinds of landscape, moving from agricultural land across a hedge and on to open moor, the Gatekeeper flourishes around the actual points where the two habitats meet. It's especially fond of ragwort's yellow flowers. Not easy to photograph as it does not stay at rest for long and moves at the approach of a shadow. Common in the south and west but climate change is encouraging it to move north. Date: 7 August 2008. Source: From geograph.org.uk. Author: ceridwen.
