Description:

Summary[edit] Description: English: Ring-tailed lemur, Yumemigasaki Zoological Park, Kawasaki, Japan The ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta) is a large strepsirrhine primate endemic to the island of Madagascar. Known locally in Malagasy as maky (spelled maki in French). Habitat Region Ring-tailed lemurs are found in three distinct habitats in southern and southwestern Madagascar: continuous canopy forest, brush and scrub forests, and mixed forests.Reproduction Ring-tailed lemurs begin mating in April and have a gestation period of 130-144 days, beginning in August and ending in September. Females are inactive until the age of 2.5, and women aged 3-4 are more likely to conceive and give birth to healthy offspring than young females. Females usually give birth to one or two offspring, but more generally women give birth to only one.[1] Scientific name: Lemur catta Genus: Lemur Family: Lemuridae .
