Description:
Robberfly (Efferia aestuans?) with Eastern Amberwing (Perithemis tenera), Leesylvania State Park, Woodbridge, Virginia. The robberfly had just taken down a dragonfly that was bigger and heavier than itself, and the weight of the dragonfly had caused them both to fall to the ground. The robberfly ate, then flew away. I'm not sure how an insect can eat a meal that is more than its own body weight, but it was impressive to watch. Happy Fly Day Friday, and hope you all have a happy and prosperous New Year, with many good fly photographs.
