Description:

Summary[edit] Description: Last night of March heralds a new species! After a fantastic catch out in the field it was back to a much smaller catch come Saturday morning, nonetheless it was certainly quality over quantity with 3 new for year species, 1 of which is completely new for my garden..(and no it wasn't a Herald, although I still haven't had a 2017 record yet), Ypsolopha mucronella. This particular moth being only the 4th specimen I have ever taken with previous records as follows Hatfield Broad Oak - 26/02/2009 Hatfield Broad Oak - 03/04/2009 Braughing Friars Farmland - 01/03/2012 It was great to see Purple Thorn as well as Streamer. Purple Thorn is an uncommon moth for my garden with just two previous records, one each in 2013 and 2014. All in all, a small catch but quality over quantity which I will happily take any day.
