Description:

Description: Eurithia (Tachinidae) fly with marauding wasp in pursuit. Another Tachinid fly photographed on the mint. I didn't notice the wasp at the time, though the mint flowers attracts dozens of them to sip drink nectar and/or catch flies. This was taken with a Canon PowerShot SX40 HS with Ranox M-150 macro lens at f/6.3, 1/125, ISO-100 in sunshine augmented by a low intensity flash directed via my Pringles can snoot diffused with kitchen tissue. ID of fly thanks to Chris Raper via diptera.info. Thanks also to Matt Smith for correcting my earlier suggestion that this was a digger wasp (see comment below). Date: 31 August 2013, 22:05.
