Description:

Arctostaphylos rudis—shagbark manzanita. Included in the CNPS Inventory of Rare and Endangered Plants on list 1B.2 (rare, threatened, or endangered in CA and elsewhere). There are probably 19 extant locations on Nipomo and Burton sand mesas in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. This manzanita forms burls that resprout after fire or injury.
