J20160317-0152—Ceanothus prostratus var occidentalis—RPBG (25970137216)
Description:
Ceanothus prostratus var. occidentalis—Mahala mats. A low-growing, mound-forming ceanothus. Makes an attractive ground cover in favorable conditions. As Las Pilitas Nursery says, "Ceanothus prostratus will take some summer water and can tolerate garden conditions fairly well, as long as it's kept cool in the afternoon. If you have a mountain cabin or a house in San Francisco you'd like to look like a mountain cabin, this is one of the plants you should be looking for." And, I don't know what "mahala" means. Photographed at Regional Parks Botanic Garden located in Tilden Regional Park near Berkeley, CA.
