Summary[edit] Description: Along with Melica subulata, Cinna latifolia, Bromus vulgaris, and Glyceria striata, Festuca subulata is one of the common native understory grasses in the understory of Death Canyon, mostly at the upper elevations of tall mostly coniferous forest that line the bottom of the canyon. The open panicle with somewhat drooping lower branches, lemma awns nearly as long as the lemmas, and broad stem leaves of about 1 cm wide are distinctive of this species.
