Summary[edit] Description: Hōlei or Kauai yellowwood Apocynaceae Endemic to the Hawaiian Islands (Kauaʻi only) Rare Kauaʻi (Cultivated) Flower buds. Flowers smell like a mild plumeria or frangipani. The nuts were eaten by early Hawaiians and the leaves & stems were used in steam baths. The bark of the stems and roots produced a yellow dye for kapa (tapa). Date: 1 March 2011, 12:25.
