Summary[edit] Description: shining stickleaf, Mentzelia nitens, California, White Mountains, Coldwater Canyon, Chalfant Valley - Owens Valley drainage, elevation 1407 m (4615 ft). One more look at the colors on the alluvial fan of Coldwater Canyon, before heading up into the canyon itself. And one more reminder of how so much desert life stays disguised like grains of sand in the soil most years, until a season like this! Also identifiable in this image are yellowthroats (Phacelia fremontii), purple mat (Nama demissa demissa), shadscale (Atriplex confertifolia), devils spineflower (Chorizanthe rigida), showy gilia (Gilia cana triceps), and whitestem stickleaf (Mentzelia albicaulis).
