Placopsis (3110195107)
Description:
Description: I encountered this several times high on Quetrupillan on exposed basalt. I don´t even know what the anatomy of those weird wrinkly orangish growths are -- are they parasitic? cephalodia? Bizarre.. Update: Curtis tells me this isPlacopsis and those orange things are in fact cephalodia (contain a secondary photobiont, in this case a cyanobacteria, while the main photobiont under the surface of the rest of the lichen is a green algae). Thanks!. Date: 12 December 2007, 15:10. Source: Placopsis Uploaded by Amada44. Author: Jason Hollinger.
