Summary[edit] Description: cliff fern, Woodsia scopulina subsp. scopulina, Nevada, White Mountains, Middle Creek, Fishlake Valley drainage, elevation 3258 m (10690 ft). Cliff fern usually earns its common name, being found mainly in sheltered cracks and crevices of massive rock outcrops, and also among boulders and talus, throughout much of mountainous and subarctic western North America, where sufficient moisture is available.
