Pitch pine cones exposed to fire
Description:
Summary[edit] Description: English: Some pitch pine cones stay closed until exposed to fire. They then open and release their seeds which grow best on bare mineral soil. This fire adapted species recruits best when fires clear the organic layer from the forest floor and open the cones. Date: 11 January 2020. Source: Own work. Author: Dmccabe.
