Summary[edit] Description: English: This is one of the first images of the female short-tailed albatross with her chick. The chick is the first to be hatched outside of Japan. As of 2010, the short-tailed albatross population is estimated to be 1,200 birds. Of these, the total number of breeding age birds is thought to be approximately 600 birds.
