Image of Bibron's mole viper
Description:
Bibron's burrowing asp. I found this burrowing snake under my tent ground cloth. I don't typically pick up snakes, but I stupidly assumed it was harmless like the legless skinks found in the area, and grabbed it by the tail. Luckily, I wasn't bit and I found out later back at the bar with a field guide how poisonous this species is. No one's on record from having died from a bite of this stiletto snake, but people do lose fingers. Still have my 10. Location approximate (Mosimawathakadu cattlepost).
