Image of Scaly-breasted Munia
Description:
A Bird with Many Names....... The Scaly Breasted Munia or Spotted Munia or Nutmeg Mannikin or Spice Finch Nilgiris, Jul 2014 Another one near my home.... Looks as if I am more lucky near my home rather than at places far away...... Had gone to Doddabetta yesterday Couldn't even get a Fig..... It was soooo ooh windy that I didn't even see a crow. .... caught a Cold though. ....tried Simp's Park later.... No luck there too.............. The Bird's name is based on the distinct scale-like feather markings on the breast and belly. The scaly-breasted munia is about 11â12 cms long and weighs 12â16 grams. The adult has a stubby dark bill typical of grain eating birds, brown upperparts and a dark brown head. The underparts are white with dark scale markings. The sexes are similar, although males have darker markings on the underside and a darker throat than females
