Description:

"Giant Redheaded Centipede (Scolopendra heros) 31 July 2016 McKinney Falls State Park Austin, Travis County, Texas Giant Redheaded Centipede lay dead on the parking lot on our arrival to the site. Not much that we could do but document the fact. The centipede was likely the victim of Human violence as it was not killed in an area of the parking lot where cars could pass or park but on the pavement leading to the existing trails. Giant Redheaded Centipede is also known as the Texas Redheaded Centipede. The range for Giant Redheaded Centipede is found in the several southwestern and lower midwestern states in the United States including Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, going east to west. And it also occurs in several states of North Central and Northeast Mexico. Because of its extensive range in North America, Giant Redheaded Centipede is an authentic resident of the Western Hemisphere. McKinney Falls State Park is administered by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.
