Description:

Seen scurrying across Canyon Ridge trail. When pursued, sought shelter under Walnut Shell fossils or leaves. Very agile. Common name is orange antmimic. Resembles velvet ants (which are actually wasps), which prey on spiders. Perhaps appearing to be a 'velvet ant' is a defense mechanism to protect against predation.
