Image of Historis odius dious
Description:
I spotted this specimen in the mid-afternoon as it darted around in the sunlight. It alighted on the trunk of a mago tree and flicked open its wings from time to time (every 20 seconds or so). The upper surface of the wings were a beautiful fiery orange and black in colour (see pic) with a white spot on the leading edge of the wing. The underside of the wings were a somewhat drab brown with two broad stripes and a black tirangular section towards the lower trailing edge. The butterfly flew up and circled around for approx. a minute before landing on the ground. It seemed to be pre-occupied with something for few minutes before flying away.
