Image of Desert box turtle
Description:
Ornate Box Turtle? I don't know if other species occur in this area or not. This one was trying to cross a very busy U.S. 90 just east of Marfa, Texas. We picked it up and took him out into the area where he was trying to go. The animal had almost no pattern on the dorsal side of the shell, perhaps old?
