Image of Himalayan Pika
Description:
I saw this little guy on the road up to Mt. Everest Base Camp in Tibet. He was a long ways away from me, but I thought he was fairly small. The only ground squirrel I can find listed as living in the region so far is the Himalayan Marmot. I've seen lots of Hoary Marmots and a couple Woodchucks here in Canada, and I don't think this guy was even close to the size of them. I keep thinking this should be a ground squirrel rather than a marmot. That said, I was a long distance from him when I took these photos. It should be noted, he appears to have quite large ears...maybe too big for a marmot? Thoughts?
