This near adult-plumaged Great Black-backed Gull showed up in the Kemah/Seabrook area of the upper Texas coast in November 1980 and stayed into April 1981. It was about the 3rd Texas record of the species at that time. This bird returned to this same location the next 4 winters in a row and has been well-documented by many observers. These shots which are of poor quality and cropped from some old slides are the best I have of this bird. There are more than 50 accepted records of Great Black-backed Gull in Texas now.
