Description:
This truly is a weird little moth: A micro with boldly patterned HW and a distinct head-up, spreadwing posture. FW is 4 mm. Experts aren't even sure what family it should be placed in. Knudson and Bordelon (2010 ed.) list the species for Texas but this represented a first Texas photo for BG; the MPG map likewise shows no Texas data: http://bugguide.net/node/view/259921 http://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.edu/species.php?hodges=1072 Obviously a first for my yard; it was photographed near a porchlight on a night when I was running a blacklight. Grass species related to the reported larval food plant (Dicanthelium spp.) are common in the nearby yard and creek corridor.
