The day before I got these shots, three of us were in the same area when this guy flew over. As he approached (second picture) his wide wingspread led us all to believe he was a turkey vulture. All three of us with cameras, no one got a shot. I returned the next day and he was gracious enough to recreate his flight. This is the biggest hawk I've seen on the mesa in nine years. I'd estimate his wingspan at 40 inches.
