Image of Incilius nebulifer (Girard 1854)

Description:

This was guy was big and he was one of our backyard visitors that likes hang out in our opened bags of mulch. This guy was tan with some darker gray color. It was a large toad with rough dry skin. His eyes were huge; and mostly he was broad, squat, and stout. I see these things all the time in the spring and summer. They love our yard and love to hide. This guy was found in a bag of mulch that had a snake and smaller frogs in it. This guy looked like what I would call a Jabba the Hutt. Frogs and toads look a lot like something out of science fiction. As a defense they can make a poison that wards off predators or if you pick them up or scare them they can urinate. Toads are just one of the many creatures you don't want to try to get a taste of. Sometimes pet dogs will play with them and get a mouth full of the poison and start to make a gagging chocking sound.
