Description:
11 August 2015: Observed several male Checkered Setwings (Dythemis fugax) perched in or near the banks of the partially dried out creek bed of Onion Creek next to the Onion Creek Trail at McKinney Falls State Park in Austin, Texas, at a spot located about a half-mile upstream from the Upper Falls. Lack of rain in the Austin, Texas area since the start of June has severely limited the flow of water in Onion Creek although the Upper and Lower Falls have both maintained some flow to their credit. Urban Austin residents continued to enjoy the falls and their associated swimming holes with their sandy banks and rocky outcrops throughout the summer. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department administers McKinney Falls State Park.
