The heart of a spider (El corazón de una araña "panadera")
Description:
[taxonomy:binomial=Gasteracantha cancriformis] [taxonomy:family=Araneae] This is a dorsal view of a female spider. In insects and spiders, the heart is a dorsal tube, so in a spider with a transparent exoskeleton like this one, we can see the heart pumping. Thanks to William Eberhard for identifying the species and telling me this story about the video, which I taped under a dissecting microscope.
