Spiders with miniature males (Arañas con machos miniatura)
Description:
[taxonomy:binomial=Gasteracantha cancriformis] [taxonomy:family=Araneae] Escazú, San José, Costa Rica. When I found this spider, I thought that it was an immature individual of this species. And it was. . . but it is close to being an adult, since males of this species mature very quickly and stay tiny. Adult females are much bigger than the males in this species. Thanks to William Eberhard for identifying the species and telling me this amazing story about this little spider, which I found with my daughter in my garden.
