Description:

Family: AsclepiadaceaeDistribution: Limited to India, found over hedges and bushes. Photographed at A.Sagaram hills of Andhra Pradesh.. Tubers and leaves are eaten and considered to be tonic and digestive. Because of excessive utilisation it is rarely found. Twining herbs. Tuberous roots are 3-4cm across, globose. Leaves thick, 2-5x1.5-2.5 cm orbicular, base acute; Flowers 1.5-2cm long purple i 2-4cm long lateral umbellate cymes. Flower-Sepals 5, Petals 5,base inflated then cyllindric, lobes short, tips connate, staminal corona double,short, included at the base, pollen masses waxy, ovary bicarpellary.
