Description:
Camellia japonicaJapanese camellia. The species is native to Shandong and E Zhejiang provinces of mainland China, Taiwan, South Korea, and the southern main islands of Japan. There are many cultivars of the species, of which this is one, that vary dramatically from the wild species. This particular cultivar is part of the "informal double" group, although I would not like to make a closer identification than that. Photographed in a private garden in Berkeley, CA
