Phellinus sp.
Description:
There are a lot of different Phellinus species in Queensland. They come in all different shapes and sizes. Some are hoof-shaped, some are crusts and others, like this one, has a flat top. We saw a couple of trees with this sort of shelf-like Phellinus on them. The fruiting bodies were mostly just above the ground, at the base the tree. This one had some smaller brackets protruding in tiers up the trunk of another tree that was growing between the larger tree's buttress roots.
