Liparophyllum exiguum capsules (ii)

Image of Liparophyllum

Description:

Fruiting plants of Liparophyllum exiguum (dwarf marshwort) on the shores of Lake King William, Tasmania. The dispersal mechanism for this species isn't very clear. The central fruit can be seen to be just splitting at the tip. This was not commonly observed suggesting that seed dispersal occurs through a different mechanisn.
