Description:
""Looking for leaves in all the wrong places" might be another appropriate caption for this picture. This Spotted Tussock Moth caterpillar (Lophocampa maculata) was rather quickly inching its way along a leafless Baltic rush stem in a patch of mostly Water sedge (Carex aquatilis, with very dry blades at this point of the year). As the caterpillar reached a dead end, it then quickly made a U-turn (left/insets).Sept. 11, 2015, Millcreek Canyon, Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, Salt Lake County, Utah, elev. 7,175 ft."
