Lance-leaved sundew or Adelaide sundewDroseraceae (Sundew family)Endemic to Queensland (Rockingham Bay, Hinchinbrook Island), Australia Oahu (Cultivated); red-flowered formFlowers (5-6 mm diameter) on are also reddish orange, or cream colored on other forms.Sundews (Drosera) are carnivorous plants that grow in nutrient deficient soils. Insects and other very small creatures are trapped by the sticky droplets on the leaves called mucilaginous glands. The plants get their nutrients from these creatures acting as a type of fertilizer.
