This is the Western Slender Bluet. The Wichita Mtns harbor a disjunct population far west of the eastern range. Normally confined to just a few lakes and generally uncommon, this species has been absent during the two year drought. However, on this transect of the fish lakes, I saw 20 tandem pairs plus another 16 individuals ... while focusing on butterflies. This is a record concentration for western Oklahoma.
