Ocean Beach has a small population of black katipo (1-3%) and over 90% red katipo, so not surprisingly we get hybrids like this one
-
Most of the katipo at Ocean Beach tend to favour quite steep north-facing slopes of sparse new Spinifex, sometimes to the point of dangerously steep. Webs such as pictured, can be small andaappear temporary, but they still manage to raise 1-2 eggsacs before moving on, or maybe getting buried by moving sand. This photo is also a particularly clear top view with typical coloration for Ocean Beach red katipo.

First photo about 50m back from the dunefront, sheltered from both SW and NW winds. Second photo, same area, about 400m back where a blowout is finally overgrown. This last one in marram, but marram is not commonly favoured - except when there's very little else.

On this coast I'm finding fairly commonly that a katipo makes a home under a well-anchored Spinifex seedhead. Almost never seen in my East Coast trips. 2nd photo is the katipo web, 3rd is location context.
