sitting on the frostweed with no web in site. Not really sure what it was doing.

Phone camera didn't do it justice, but a large (about 2 inches) spider. Black with yellow bands on the legs and two yellow stripes down the back. Seated in a beautiful web with a zig zag of silk close to where she was sitting. Web was made in the middle of a fern type plant not too high off of the ground. Very long legs that were in bunches of 2 and 2 on each side. I believe it is a Yellow garden spider after researching spider species in NY and comparing my photos with documented photos. The zig zag in the web was a give away for the identification
