Colorful above reddish with no blotching; below with red about chest, throat, front legs, and much of hind legs. Expressed squeaking and growling release call when handled. Measured: SVL 83 mm (3 in.). Encountered jumping in tall grass approximately 4.8 m (15 ft.) away from water.

Very dark individual from shaded canyon Above dark; below gray with red on throat, groin, and hind legs. Vocalized squeaks and growls when handled. Measured: SVL 83 mm (3 in.). Spotted on bank of creek with steep sides and cavern providing shelter from trickling seepage raining down. Creek sheltered by cliffs and rarely exposed to sun.

Eight clusters of eggs counted attached to vegetation on surface of water and below, all deposited in vicinity of one another and exposed to sunlight.

Dorsal brownish-red with subtle blotches; below distinctly red about legs and groin. Discovered on sunny stream bank of tranquil section of creek.

Coupling pair encountered crossing damp road, after light shower. Pair appeared to be traveling away from a pond emanating loud chorus of Pseudacris regilla. Speculation is that the pair may have joined at one pond, and then, was encountered traveling across land to a superior spawning pond across road.

Remarkably, the characteristic red leg coloration that gave this species its common name was faint and virtually absent. Measured: SVL 108 mm (4 in.). A pleasant surprise when found at night on road during light, sprinkling rain. When picked up, rasping chuckle release call vocalized. Air temperature: 10-C (50-F).
