I was enjoying the afternoon sun, eating an apple, seating on a bench in front of a little pond in a park, near Kawagoe. Several mallards and widgeons were competing with the gulls for the bites of bread that an old lady was casting in the water. A grebe was paddling all alone in the middle of the pond. A couple of bulbuls were moving here and there from the branches of the gingko trees, trying to get some bites too. Then somehow they were attracted by my red apple.

"The first few times I've seen Philippine Bulbuls were in the highlands, more than 1000 ASL. It was my first time to see these birds in a coastal area. These bird species are have very aggressive calls. I've seen 2 couples looking for berries of trees. They are agile and fast flyers. The Philippine Bulbul is native to the country, but could not be found in Palawan, Basilan and Tawi-tawi islands, but are not that common compared to the Yellow-vented Bulbuls. Bulbuls are called ""Perok-perok"" in Visayan dialect."
