I don't usually associate this bird with perching in trees, but I disturbed this on the track and it flew into an adjacent tree (Taupata). It sat there emitting single peeps and listening to a reply from another nearby tree. Didn't have a long zoom lens, so the first photo is the raw scene (spot the birdy ;-), the others are cropped for your viewing pleasure.

Mid afternoon. Alerted me to its presence with a call as it alighted on its perch. Not sure of sex.
